Who we are

Mutual aid, not charity

We cook and share free vegan meals because food is a right, and communities can care for one another directly.

Nobody here is a client or a case. We are neighbors.

Every Saturday, people prepare food, pack meals, coordinate delivery, wash dishes, and clean up together.

Mutual aid means contributing what we can, working alongside one another, and responding directly to community needs.

Six commitments

What we hold to

Food access

Free meals, without cost or conditions, are the center of the work.

Vegan food

Plant-based meals are not incidental. They are part of who we are.

Volunteer participation

The work depends on accessible, hands-on community involvement.

Dignity

People who eat with us are neighbors, not recipients of a service.

Practical action

Chopping, packing, driving, cleaning, and food recovery are all real care.

Local accountability

Austin operations, schedules, and updates are run by local organizers.

Part of a wider movement

Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer movement that recovers food which would otherwise be discarded and shares free vegan and vegetarian meals. Austin is one locally organized collective within it, with our own kitchens, schedule, and organizers rather than a central office.
